Frequently Asked Questions

How do I secure my 2027 departure?

A deposit of $1000 is required to confirm your cabin selection for any 2027 tour. Given our limited tours and capacity, we highly recommend booking early to secure your preferred dates and travel windows.  You can secure your booking on our reservation page, call (425-636-8071), or email (tours@bikebarge.com).

What cycling fitness level is expected?

Our tours are graded moderate, featuring daily routes between 20-40 miles across mostly flat floodplains. Guided cycling ensures a manageable pace for all, and our barge is always a comfortable backup option if you choose a rest day.  There is a short group (20-30 miles) and a long group (30-40 miles) every day.  Our routes are not designed for E Bikes.

How is the weather during the tour season?

The season runs from April through September. Spring is celebrated for its iconic tulip displays and are worth the colder temperatures.  Average April temperatures are around 55 degrees.  The average summer temperatures in the Netherlands is high 65-75 degrees.  There is always the chance of rain in the Netherlands so be sure to always bring waterproof rain gear for cycling and touring.

What types of bikes are provided?

We supply premium trekking bikes as standard.  Step-through or crossbar bike options.  Guests may bring personal bicycles, provided they meet our safe on-deck storage requirements.

Will I experience seasickness on the barge?

Seasickness is extremely rare. Our hotel barges sail primarily on calm inland canals and protected river floodplains where water movement is minimal. The vessel is designed for maximum stability, ensuring a restful and smooth journey.
